– About –

I am currently living in Oxford, Mississippi after moving here in August of 2017 in order to take a position as a visiting Instructional Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts at the University of Mississippi. Prior to this, I spent two years in Newport, Rhode Island, having moved there in 2015 to finish writing my dissertation while living near the ocean. Rhode Island has served as a kind of geographical base of operations for me since my family moved here when I was twelve, but I have also lived in Utah, California, Maryland, Virginia, and Pennsylvania. I hope to someday permanently move to Kauai, Hawaii. Though that prospect might very well be decades away, a boy can still dream.

My PhD is in Theatre and Performance Studies from the University of Pittsburgh and my MA is in Theatre History and Performance Studies from the University of Maryland. In addition to an obvious interest in theatre, I am also deeply interested in the cultural meanings of zombie movies, British and Scandinoir television, kayaking, and literary science-fiction, as well as being passionate about a wide range of music genres and artists.

Since 2009, I have served as the audio producer for PodCastle.org, a weekly fantasy fiction podcast that is one of the largest fantasy fiction markets in the world. PodCastle has published stories from authors such as Peter S. Beagle, Tim Pratt, Amal El-Mohtar, Saladin Ahmed, Ann Leckie, NK Jemisin, Ken Liu, and Lavie Tidhar, among many, many others.

This site serves mostly as an introduction to my work as a scholar, director, and sound designer, as well as providing links and examples of my web and graphic design work. You will find photographs from two of my directing projects, sound design and music files, and a few videos. I have also included a general artistic statement that gives a sense of my aesthetic and artistic interests, my teaching philosophy, and my current cv. The design is based on MuseTheme’s Pioneer theme, though I have customized it in a number of ways. I am currently not available for web and graphic design due to the amount of teaching work I have. However, I am always interested in directing and sound design projects and would also love the opportunity to design cover art for an album. Use the contact page for project inquiries, job offers, questions, or to just say hi.

Artistic Statement

My primary interest as a director, writer, and sound designer is the exploration of ambiguous worlds and liminal spaces; of people and characters struggling to navigate a life in which there are no final answers, only provisional moments of grace.

Teaching Philosophy

The importance of practical knowledge, scaffolding as a pedagogical tool, the classroom as community, and the necessity of reflective practices are all central to my teaching philosophy.
